Why Alpacas?

A Natural Progression

If you have look around the Clemwood site, you most likely figured out that we are experienced dog people.  Quite frankly, we are absolutely nuts about them. We’ve raised them, shown them, traveled with them and loved them all of our lives. We’ve been blessed with a few champions in the show ring and enough great memories to last a lifetime.  So we know dogs.  Our interest in alpacas had a basis in our successes in raising champion dogs.

A Good and Practiced Eye

As with horses, dogs and now alpacas, it is often heard from the most experienced people: “I know a good one when I see one.” How true.  There is no substitute for conformational correctness in an alpaca.  The end game of fiber quality is as important, but the structural foundation of an animal is paramount to the success of everything else you may wish to accomplish with that animal. At Clemwood, our foundation stock is firmly grounded in conformational structure and fiber quality in our animals.
